In my opinion, I do not think that America is dealing with racism as much as it has in the past. Hence slavery, no right for blacks etc. However, if you evaluate the events that have been happening that have to do with shootings that specifically involve a policeman shooting a person of dark colored skin, you could say confidently that racism is still an issue. I do know however, that not all of the shootings were on purpose. Some were just tragic accidents. But policeman have made some very public mistakes as to being too aggressive and violent when they deal with dangerous situations. More evidence points to all the protests that follow these shootings. People have been blocking streets and holding signs that demand freedom. Some of the protests even turn violent and deaths occur. But, if you were to look less broadly at the subject, you could look at your own community. Sometimes, people just make meaningless jokes about another race. That person may not think they're doing any harm, but some people don't take these things lightly. Which is why you must be careful about how you joke around. You never know who you might offend. In conclusion, I think that racism is at a better standpoint than it has been in the past, but we still need to square up, and not judge people just by looking at their skin color, religion, or culture. We are too diverse of a society to ignore the horrible things being said around us, and we need to fight against it.

I believe that racism is treating someone different because of where they are from or because of the color of their skin. I also believe that everyone should be interacting with different cultures and races its the only way you learn new thing about different people. I think America is getting better with racism but it is still really bad. A personal experience I have with this is when me and my friends go for a walk there could be a white guy behind us for blocks and we wouldn't think anything of it but if it was a black guy we would be running away. Personally I believe this fear is instilled into us by elders and tv.

Racism is when having other thoughts about people belief and character. I think of it as discrimination against other human beings weather it's a gay marriage to the rights of women. Everyone is different from their skin color and their own culture. But not everyone has to agree people have the right to their own opinion which is a right. People not have the same beliefs as me and they have the right to disagree but then it tends to be rude when they just start saying bad things and talking bad about what you're culture is or belief which is discrimination. Every single day the world is dealing with racism it maybe from where you can sit on a bus or if you can walk on the sidewalks. Some examples is if a person has a problem with Hispanics or people from India are next to them in a line or at a restaurant they may start saying mean stuff to them.

Racism is the mistreatment of people of different ethnicity's than us personally i have no experience with it but i see things on tv and the news. I learn about people and cultures through the internet or maybe even personal experience. I thin k america is still dealing with a lot of racism today and its in some cases is just as bad as it was before the way some people see others that are different from them is not a good thing even though stuff like segregation and slavery is banned racism is still very visible in america today.

This country still has racism. The reason that this country still has racism is that some people or groups believe that people of a different color don't deserve the same rights as they do. For example the KKK or the Ku Klux Klan believe that African American people do not share the same rights as they do. So what do they do about it the kill them by burning them alive or they shoot them with a gun they even burn there houses to the ground. that's not all though the Ku Klux Klan may not be as big as they were before but now even when it gets time to vote for a new president one of the candidates Donald Trump is racist. Sure he Seems that he only wants to get rid of illegal immigrants but the things he says is just racist to all Mexicans. he clams he wants to build a wall that is 20 feet high around the US doesn't not seem right to build a wall if we depend on trading with other country's.

To me, racism is the putting down or the thought that another race is inferior when compared to another race. People can't change their race, they're born with it. The world is comprised of all different races and groups that you'll most likely encounter. In this schoool, there are people of different races. At the grocery store, you'll see different groups. Many people have adapted to the culture of where they are on the globe. If you meet someone, or go somewhere, often times people will share experiences and stories with you so you can have a better understanding.

Racism is when people are discriminated for most likely either their color or religion. I don't think racism is right because each person has the same right to be on this Earth as you. You can learn from different people about their culture and how they live life. The also can put you in their veiwpoint in life. America is defintitly still dealing with racism, especcially recentley. Some people for example believe that all terrorists are Muslim, which they are not, or they believe all Mexican are rapists and drug dealers. Also the black lives matter movement believes that many officers for example discriminate towards them because they have shot some colored people before. Racism is a very real thing and always has been but it shouldn't be becasue we shouldn't be judged by fake sterotypes.

Yes, America deals with racism. Everyone judges someone by their skin color, ethnicity, religion etc. My personal definition for racism is judging someone based off their skin color or race. Most of the time the word racist or racism is used incorrectly, being a racist in my opinion is discriminating someone for their skin color. A lot of teenagers today use racist as a joking matter but the reality is, that it is not a laughing matter.

Racism is when a specific group of people hate on a different specific group of people for their characteristics. I define racism as being a terrible thing. I haven't had any problem with racism but there is a lot of stuff going on in the U.S. and around the world that is very racist. I learn about this stuff from school and books. America is definitely still dealing with racism, just not as much as it used to be. A lot of people are rioting because of racism. People are also kneeling during the National Anthem and other things because they don't believe that our country is where it needs to be with racism.

Racism effects the united states of america in enormous ways. Just the thought of racism is totally beyond me. The fact that people in our society today make fun of people or look down on people jus because the color skin they have? That to me is absolutly stupid. Point blank. Stupid. There are hundreds of thousands of better ways people can be spending there time rather than making remarks about this person that have to do with their race.

What is racism? Inequality? When you think about it, racism IS inequality. When you are being racist, you are discriminating one by their race. We are still dealing with racism each day, you see it on the news, you see it in articles. For example, in this Political Campaign, one of the runners for the campaign was making racist comments about the immigrants. Calling them all different types of names that are well known. Another example is with the cops. Yes, there are a lot of cops that are helping to protect us and are doing good and are nice, but there are the cops you say that are "doing their job" that are only looking for people who are bad who are of color. Yes, I do understand that some people of color do bad things to land themselves in Jail, but then again, so does every race. But the thing Im trying to get across is that lots of cops look to find something wrong and assume something is wrong for people of color JUST because of their race. It is time to make a difference in our society. People will argue that racism doesnt exist anymore, but it very well does.

Yes, America is still dealing with racism. Racism is all over the news because people decide to mean and say horrible things to people or are mean to certain people because their skin is a certain color. I have friends that don't have the same skin color as me , and that doesn't matter, but some people in America are still putting labels or saying things because of someones skin color. Having different races in America is what makes America what it is today. Different cultures or races help us understand people better and help educate us about how certain people choose to live and what they believe. Our country is already somewhat arrogant about many things, but imagine how arrogant we would be if we didn't have other races and cultures, we would be clueless about whats happening around the world and why people choose to do certain things.Last summer there were many riots that destroyed towns because some people were so mad about how the country has treated them and is treating them; on the other hand how can people react to racism towards anyone if it is brought to there attention because of riots, why would they feel like they should help with that community that just destroyed a whole town. On both sides whether your a certain race or believe in a different religion, each person in America should be treated equal; if you don't want to be treated a certain way don't treat others that way because everyone deserves respect.

Yes, America is still dealing with racism. I define racism as people judging other people for there color, race and culture. People these days still judge others because of what they look like. Racism isn't as harsh as it used to be. Blacks and others aren't segregated from whites as much as they used to be. Nowadays, we don't prosecute or turn people away for having a different skin color as we used to, but it still happens. I believe that racism is wrong. Racism is when an individual believes that their race is superior or higher than another race. I believe that many people are very blinded to what racism is and the role that it plays in our lives. Racism has changed from what it was like a hundred of years ago. West Michigan does not have a very diverse population of different races. That is why I think that it is very important to travel and experience other places and ethics. It’s also very beneficial to learn another language and experience it first hand. I believe that there is still and will always be, to some extent, inequality. For example, in today’s world there are some incidents where black were given a greater punishment for the same crime that a white person committed. I believe that if everyone does their part and doesn’t feed the fire, by being a racist, then the amount of racism in our society would decrease. In my opinion, I believe that there is only one race, and that is the human race.

Racism is when people treat each other differently because of what color they are, or what race they are. Such as if someone is Mexican, Hispanic, White, Black, etc. I think of racism as saying something like there being different drinking fountains for different colors. Some of the experiences I've had were people joking around about other races, or different cultures. How I learn about other cultures, and other races is by hanging out with them. The other way I learn about other cultures and races is learning about them in a class. I think that America still has a little bit of racism, like when President Obama was elected, he was the first African American President. As for Inequality and Bigotry. I don't think that their is much inequality going around, but there is definitely a lot of bigotry happening around us everywhere. Bigotry is when something happens that in someones opinion is amazing but to someone else it it the worst thing ever. There is defiantly bigotry everywhere.

Racism is something that is still a big problem in our country and lately it seems like it has gotten even worse. In the past couple months I have seen so much racism in our society, I see it all over social media and on TV. Even people we are supposed to look up to that might have power or authority or that are supposed to protect us have taken part in racism. It is terrible that people that are innocent are being discriminated just because of the way they were born. Do people think that they can control what color they are when they're born? And it's not just color, racism is a word that means more but is known better in the society we live in today for discrimination against different colored skin. Racism is the act of not liking someone or seeing them as a separated part of society just because they were born a certain way or they believe in something different. Honestly what does it matter what other people believe in as long as you believe in something for yourself it shouldn't affect you. And how is it that some people think just because someone is a different color it makes them a bad person or criminal? You could take a white person that is kind and caring, and paint them black and EVERYONE would see them as a totally different person. But I guess that's just how our society is today.

Racism is discrimination against other cultures and ethnicities. I define racism as a way that people put down or show disrespect ro people of other skin colors, cultures, or even other religions. I do believe that there is still racism in America today. Of course it wasn't as bad as it used to be, but it is still quite present. One expierence I have is from the media or watching tv. There is a lot of hate on social media and racism is a big part of it. Since a lot of teenagers and children are using social media, they are very surrounded with racism and hate. I think that is a way or example of how racism is continually growing in our society. There are many ways you can be taught about other cultures and ethnicities and get to understand them more. One way is with school. In some classes it is mandatory to learn about other religions and races. Also, learning about the past will help you better understand how other cultures grew. Another way is from your parents or siblings. They could teach you about other cultures as well. Meeting people of other races and cultures help you learn about them. Traveling to different countries will help you understand other cultures as well. A few examples of racism are treating people of other cultures poorly because of the way they speak, act, or what they look like. America is still dealing with this today, and it is continuing to be a big issue.

Racism is when a person of one race is being rude, and says they dislike another person just because of there skin color. Sometimes when I am out in public I hear people making racist jokes. My great aunt and uncle adopted a little girl decades ago, and know I have three African American cousins. My family has never said anything rude to them because they have different color skin then the rest of us. We treat them just like we would treat any other family member. Definitely, there is still a lot of racism in America. People are shooting cops because of there race, and vice versa. The "Black lives matter" campaign SHOULD not have to exist. We should all respect each other enough not to care what race they are. America stereotypes races. If you like something, or you do a certain thing people will guess your race. Social media is saying if you drink Starbucks, you are a white girl. These days social media is a big cause for racism. People can hide behind usernames and say whatever they want because no one will find out who they are. Michigan has a lot of diversity, and Ottawa county has the biggest population of Hispanic people. We all get along. It's not hard. It's whats on the inside that matters.

Racism is the belief that all people belonging to a specific race have characteristics that make them superior, or inferior to their brothers and sisters of other races. These characteristics are most often completely ridiculous, made up traits that another person can use to discriminate a specific race. Racism is ugly. It hurts people, entire cultures, even our children are effected by racism.

Racism is discrimination against a person that has a different race based on the belief that one’s own race is superior. How I define racism is, someone being judged for a different skin color or religion. I haven’t had very many experience of racism due to where I live, but sometime I do catch people joking around about it, thinking its funny and not a big deal, when it is. You just have to imagine yourself in their position. I learn about some cultures different than mine through school the most. I do think America still deals with racism around the world, but not as much as in the past with diversity and freedom rights. I do not experience much or any racism in my community. Inequality means that there is a difference in size, degree, or even circumstances. Bigotry is tolerance toward those who hold different opinions to oneself.

Racism is discriminating another person for what the color of their skin is. I was raised not to notice the color of other people’s skin. There were white people and black people and people of all colors. To me they were, and still are, all the same. Racism has never made any sense to me. Why do we judge people by their skin color, or their religion; when we should be judging them on their personalities. America still has racism, and it most likely always will. I isn’t as extreme as it use to be, but it is still there.

I would define racism as something that is used to discriminate people. I don’t think I have really experienced racism in my life. I live in Allendale which is a majority of one race. I don’t feel really discriminated in Allendale. I do think America still is racist. I don’t think people realize that they are racist. I was in Washington D.C two years ago and it was very segregated around certain monuments. Around the Martin Luther King Jr. Monument people of color were hanging out there. My family and I walked to the Jefferson Memorial and a lot of white people were there. I don’t think people were trying to be racist. It is something we just didn’t notice. People of color hang around the MLK monument where white people hang around the Jefferson Memorial. We aren’t trying to be racist it just something we do that we don’t even notice. I think our country is still racist it’s just that most of us don’t realize.

Racism is discriminating another person based on their ethnicity and beliefs. I have been around many racist people in my life, and many of my friends could be considered racist. I have never been discriminated against, but I have seen people be discriminated, and I have seen the awful effects it has on them. I've learned about many different cultures, and I have met many different sorts of people through social media. It is a great tool to learn about different people, and the things they do. I do think America is still dealing with racism, and I don't have to look far to find examples. Many people within the community of Allendale are racist, and this is because we a prominently white community. I have seen and heard many racist things within the community. This is not okay, and something needs to change because as stated in the Declaration of Independence, "We hold these truths to be self evident that all men are created equal."

Racism is prejudice or discrimination against someone based on the belief that one’s own race is superior. I would define racism as discrimination against people who are different, whether it be race, color of skin, etc. Since we live in the day and age where racism is not shown as much, people are all mixed together. My Aunt is a person of color, but I just think of her as she is, not based on the color of her skin. I’ve known people from Africa, France, and a few other places. We learn about other cultures by paying attention to what is going on outside of our bubble. Newspapers, the news, and online articles are a good way to know what is going on. We learn about the cultures in general from everyday life. America is definitely still dealing with racism. I think that Allendale is very conservative, but I would not label it as a “racist” town. Racism and inequality are shown in everyday life. One of the most prominent examples of inequality is the pay difference between women and men. Women are paid 20% less than men in the same job. On the other hand, racism against people of color has gone down significantly over time.

Yes, Racism is still present in America today. The definition of Racism is the belief that one race is superior to the other race. An example of this is in our own white house. I understand that illegal immigrants can be a problem but President Trump wants to build a wall around the united states and make the Mexican people pay for it. What did they do to deserve this the people that stayed out of the United States have to pay for something people they have never even met have done.

America has always dealt with racism in some form. First it was slavery then, it was segregation now, it is the unity of prejudice people. As time goes on the effects of racism have become more mild but, it has never completely gone away. people face racism every day. Muslims face racism because of their religion. African Americans face racism because of their skin tone. i believe that if people took the time to appreciate and understand other cultures that racism wouldn't be as big of an issue a it is. What gave people the right to decide that they are better than the person standing next to them? When did the color of your skin make you superior in any way?

Racism is discrimination or prejudice against a different race and thinking that your race is better than everyone else's. One good way to learn about different cultures other than your own is to go to a big city. In small cities, there is often one main culture. Going to a big city helps you learn about new cultures. Racism is still alive in America today. I do believe that America is dealing with racism. Sixty years ago, African-Americans couldn't even drink at the same drinking fountains as white people. Although there is racism today, it's not nearly as bad as it used to be. I don't experience racism in our community, and I don't believe there is a lot of racism in our community.

To me, racism is the discrimination of a people. I do not have many experiences with racism, and my family has always been accepting of all cultures. The only “experiences” I have are seeing people that are different than me. I learn about people’s cultures by seeing and reading about how they behave, and how they are portrayed on the news and stories, which of course, is not always the right portrayal. I think America is still dealing with racism, but I do not see it much in my own community. I think America is still dealing with racism because there have been many incidents where someone is discriminated against because of their race/culture. I googled “racism in America” for some evidence for my argument, and I saw that google had produced 199,000,000 results. This is a huge number, and is very disappointing. Another piece of evidence is kneeling at football games. Although some people see this as a disrespectful act, and some people see it as revolutionary, the reason it started was because of police hate crimes against black people. Some people may think that racism is non existent because there is no slavery, and both of those statements are very very wrong. America is still dealing with racism.

I do think that it still goes on today, and I think it can be dangerous. I don't think, and I don't know what's going on in my community, but maybe there is that I don't know of.

To me, racism is the discrimination of someone based off the color of their skin or their culture. I've had experiences of both being discriminated or seeing someone being discriminated against. I learn about other cultures through books, TV, school, but mostly the History channel. Yes, I do think America is still dealing with racism, along with every other country in the world. Racism is never going away. No matter how hard you try, or how hard you feel, there is always going to be one person who is racist. From time to time, I do experience racism in my own community, but it doesn't happen often. If you were to ask me one specific moment of racism in our community, I couldn't answer you because it doesn't happen often. But, I wouldn't have this thought that racism does happen in our community if I had not experienced it before, so its had to have happened at least once. Basically, my final thought is that you have to be ignorant to believe that racism does not go on today or that it will ever go away.

Racism is prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior. How I define racism is discrimination against a certain race because of the belief that one race is superior to another. In my lifetime, I haven’t experienced much racism, but when I went to Europe, the Tour De France terrorist attack had recently happened, so while we were there we all experienced racism towards people of the group Al-Qaeda. People weren’t logical and assumed that ,because a few people of one group performed a terror attack, everyone in the group are terrorists, which is not true. I learn about different cultures by traveling. I get to see different customs in person. American is still not done with racism. An example is back in the 60s when Martin Luther King Jr. was fighting for rights they should have already had. Now, although there is equality, people are still discriminated against. I don’t experience a lot of racial inequality in my community, but, on the contrary, one race makes up almost the entirety of the community.

Racism is discriminating someone of a different race than your own, racists feel like their race is superior over another. I define racism as anyone who thinks they are better than anyone else based on the way they look, it’s wrong and unjust. I personally have many different experiences with people of several different ethnicities. I grew up with mostly people with dark skin, hispanics, african americans, etc. So as I grew up it was really easy for me to learn about people and cultures that differ from my own. Because I have such a huge family, there was always a different culture right in front of me, there was always more to learn. Sadly, growing up in such a diverse community, I know for a fact that racism was and still is a problem in America. Growing up I can recall several times my family and I have been subject to racism. Im from Grand Rapids, I grew up half in Allendale and half in the city. In moving to Allendale, there were several times where I was looked down upon for the way I look. When I was younger I looked a lot more ethnic than I do now, and growing up in a very non diverse town was hard. I would make friends and their parents would immediately disapprove, just after looking at me. I looked different and I dressed different and they didn’t like that, I was labelled the “bad influence”. Allendale is sadly a very close minded town sometimes, and it was hard as a little kid. There was even a time when I got kicked out of a friends house by a very racist father and called a “dirty mexican” at age 6. The sad part is that I was a really good kid, I was very clean cut, and I was very smart. But because my skin was darker, or my hair was darker, or my eyes were darker, I was turned away. I had to deal with it for a long time, but it has died out a bit more now that I’m older because over time I started looking less ethnic. The racism and the bigotry need to stop. No child, nor adult should be judged for the body that god gave them. We don’t control the way we look, we’re born this way. We’re born equal. And if people can’t see that by now then they’re stuck in the past. People who are that close minded should invest in a rich man with a spray tan, go on a little island, and build a wall around that island, because they’re hate and judgment can take a hike. (Play on words if you know what I mean, not gonna bring politics in but you get the references.)

Racism is discrimination directed at other people because of the color of their skin, or that a certain race is better, or less than another. Racism is real in our world, and I even see in our community. Personally, I do not experience racism a lot, but I do hear it on a regular basis. I think people around say things that don't mean to come across racist, but does. I also think that many people misinterpret people that look different because of a skin color or are from a different country, or maybe don't speak the same language or something of the sort; and happen to think of them in a negative way. I feel like we as people, automatically look at that as "different", and judge them just because of how they look, and that's racist. Skin color should not determine anything in societies ways, we are all equal.

What is racism? It divides people into "us" and "them", based on where they come from or the color of their skin. Racism happens when people feel that it's okay to treat others badly and differently as if they were different from any other human. I have seen people involved in it. There was a time where I saw a Hispanic lady trying to get in line when she didn't realized she had cut an elderly white women. Like most Hispanics she couldn't speak any English. All she could say when she realized she had cut her was a sorry. The elderly women starting to Spaatz out and told her to return back to where she belongs, she said it quietly. Although she didn't speak any English I was able to see what type of person she was. America is still dealing with racism especially ever since trump became the new president. I feel that ever since he became the president, people think they can open their mouth and say and do things to hurt others in a racism way,

Racism is when one is being prejudice against someone else due to their difference in race and/or belief. Racism still is happening in America in many different ways; not all of them are obvious. It’s still up for debate whether racism still exists - but that's not up to us. Any person who is not a minority has no place to say that racism is no longer an issue nor its existence. Personally, looking at today's society, I think that racism has gotten gradually worse.

racism is the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races. The experiences I have had with people with different culture is cool because you can always can remember there culture and make friends with them. Learned that these people have dreams like use. Yes, because people get reminded all the time and they say things around there friends that are different and that will make them made at you for saying these things. Yes, but not all the time. if you evaluate the events that have been happening that have to do with shootings that specifically involve a policeman shooting a person of dark colored skin, you could say confidently that racism is still an issue.

I believe that racism is when you treat a person different or because of how they are or were they come from sometimes it’s because of their skin color or how they act. I don’t know if this is racism but i went through something like that because i went to a school at Mexico and then they told me that i could not go because i was not “Mexican”.You learn by them with their traditions and yes i do think that America is still dealing with racism. I think that we should not do that we should treat everyone as that same way they treat us because in my opinion i would not like people treating me like that and i would feel really bad. One of they way that i would help someone that is going through that is talking with them and with the people that are doing that.

Racism is still evident in today's society. There are so many outlets to let out your frustration, or your personal beliefs. Media (i.e. TV, movies, social media, and even music) is often used in a very negative way to depict racism and social adverse. As 9/11 was nearing, I saw a lot of anti-Muslim posts on various social medias. This is an example of racism today: blaming all Muslims for a tragic event that was an act of terrorism. Yes, the people involved in the terrorist group were Muslim, but that is no reason to blame the entire religion for the horrifying event that took place on that day. Another example is Black Lives Matter.

Racism is being hateful towards another race. I have very good experiences with different ethnic groups, I also have a lot of friends from different ethnic groups. I learn from what they do for instance what they celebrate, how they speak, and what they support. America is still dealing with racism today, I know this because people all have their own opinions and there are still hate groups and other things against other races. I don't think there is a lot of racism in our community. I think racism is terrible, because people shouldn't hate on races just because they are different, even people that are your race are different then you so how is it any different?

I think Racism is a little worse today than it has been ever, people have been stating if anything it is better right now but with memes, Black Lives Matter. Claiming you are not racist or not, it really doesn't matter. Racism is everywhere, everyone is racist. Slavery is worse right now than it was before according to officials. With the production of beans and slaves without food or having to work in horrible conditions just to get food for their families. I watched a documentary about a year ago where "slaves" had to work early in the morning and at night when it was dark so it wasn't safe. One of their son's had to go in early and died when the forklift was laying trash down. It crushed the kid, one less family member. These people are treated horribly because of where they are born. And people are not making it better if anything "black" people are saying the N word which is a racial term they are only allowed to use. I feel like that is enforcing racism even more. Allowing one color to use the word still segregating everyone else from using it. Racism is worse right now then ever before.

Racism. It is a topic that can be defined as one race or person that thinks that his race or culture is better than another. In my experience with other cultures, I have met quite a few people of different race. In my experience they have been no different from me. They talk like me, walk like me, the only thing that is different is their skin color. In my opinion, America is not dealing with as much racism as the media cracks it up to be. In my opinion the media blows things out of proportion in order to gain awareness for the topic. Even if it is false awareness. I believe that in america today if one person does a violent act to someone, they should be punished the same way whomever the victim is. I believe that the so called racism in America is just people are blowing this whole “if somebody acts violent towards someone of a different race, they should be punished much more severe.” people are people no matter what their race is so why do some groups think that their race is more entitled for more protection. Isn't that what the definition of racism is?

Racism is discriminating someone for having different colored skin or race. I myself have not had any experiences with racism, but I know a lot of people who have. All over the internet, people are discriminating people for being African, Asian, etc. and it must come to an end. I can learn about other cultures around the world through the internet and through classes like World History and English. I can also learn about different cultures through the people I am friends with by asking them about what they might do during holidays or what they might do on a regular, day-to-day basis. I do think America is still dealing with racism today, and it is just as bad as it was 50 years ago. Sure, there aren't as many slaves as there used to be, but slavery still exists in our country and other countries around the world. Today, people are also discriminated for the color of their skin when they're just walking down the street or shopping in a store. For some reason, people think it's okay to call someone out for being different, even though it's not. For some reason, people think that if you have color skin, you're not as good as someone with white skin. I have not had an experience with racism in my society, and I am very grateful of that.

Racism is something that people believe are wrong completely and that if there are others that are different looking or act differently they can make an assumption about the personality they have. My definition of racism is when someone makes an assumption as to someones personality and that they could be a thief or terrorist depending on their ethnicity.I have had some interactions of how people of different ethnicity act around people and I truly don't care about their ethnicity or how they act. Someones life is theirs and people have no control over how people can act. I do believe that their is still some racism today in america. As far as I have seen, there has been no racism.

Racism is treating somebody differently due to them having a different culture than your own. Racism can be anything from avoiding somebody on the street, all the way to killing them for their differences. It is a spectrum of hatred that seems to affect us all in one way or another. I have been called things for being white, even though I don't hold my skin color as a symbol of power above others. It is nice to experience others cultures through singing, eating, dancing etc. It is sad to see Americas state now because after all these years racism still exists. People still find other races to blame for their troubles, instead of finding the root of the problem and fixing it. If we would all try harder instead of joining a bandwagon of blame then America would surely thrive and progress.

Racism is putting someone or something under you because they have a different skin tone. In my opinion when someone is being racist it usually includes treating someone different based on race. One experience with a different culture I have is I have a friend that is from another country but was adopted her into the U.S. The way I learn about people and cultures is through research online, and not only that but asking them about where they are from and things that they do differently from what we do. I do believe that the U.S still deals with racism whether its whites treating blacks poorly or the other way around. You hear almost every day in the news about something that is related to racism. I don't experience it because I am not usually around it. I think that it really isn't going to go away, but at the same time I think we should be better about it as a country. Finally my opinion about racism, inequality, and bigotry is that it is something I wish wasn't a thing, but it is and we are going to have to learn how to minimize it.

Racism is the discrimination of people who have a different race or are a different ethnicity. Being racist means you are in some way discriminating someone for things like being different because of their ethnicity, race, beliefs, and maybe traditions. I've had experiences with a few Mexican people from being at my friends house and her family is Mexican. I learned a few things about her family by seeing what her mom does and what her other family members do together like they have certain parties and stuff and its cool to learn about that. I know that America is dealing with racism everyday. Racism isn't something we can stop. I haven't experienced racism in person but I have seen it online. On an ad about sprite and it had Shaq and his family. Someone in the comments complained that it was an all black family. There are tons of ads and commercials that have all white families so if it's an all black family it shouldn't be a problem to anyone. We can't really stop racism but we can continue to fight for rights.

Yes, racism is still alive in America today. My own definition of racism is treating someone different because of where they came from or because the color of their skin. Obviously racism isn't as "bad" as it was in the past, but it still isn't ass good as it could be. In a perfect world everyone would get along and there would be no problems, but the world isn't perfect neither are humans. People make mistakes but it only becomes a problem when people don't fix those mistakes and they just keep making them over and over again. I also like to believe that our elders and the television productions that we watch today instill a fear about colored people and I don't think that is okay. As a celebrity on a television production they need to use their following for the better and not for the worse.

America in the day and age we live in we do deal with racism. It is how fascinating how much people judge a person just by looking at them. If the nicest person in the world was a different skin color, culture, etc would you be quick to judge them on what they believe, do, or look like. I personally like to to learn different cultures and meet different kinds or people. It is really fascinating to see what culture people have that may have come from ancestors way before our time. It's amazing what you can learn from one person if you don't judge them just by looking at them.

Racism is not accepting people for who they are, what there culture is, what they believe in and going against it like you are the superior race. It's a discrimination against people who are different, or are not what you like. In my own experience I’ve gone to stores where the makeup products for black girls are locked up compared to the skin shades meant for white people where not. I personally think this is racist because the stores are just assuming because they’re black that they would steal the product instead of buying it. You can learn about other people's cultures by immersing yourself into it. Try living like them for a day and observe what they do, and don’t just try to research it because not everything that is said about a culture is true. In our community I’ve never encountered anything that is racist besides some of the students that try to make jokes about it. America today is still dealing with racism just not as much as they used to in the past. In the past there was slavery and black and white were separated, now they aren’t. Although today President Trump is still trying to kick the Mexicans out of the country and to me that shows that America is still fighting against racism.

Racism is a thought process that can be described by judging people by their looks and actions without knowing anything about them. I do not have any racist stories other than knowing one friend that has a darker skin color and was being physically beat up by another person because they didn't "like the colour" of his skin. One way to learn how to avoid racism is to be raised and put yourself in a diverse community. Being in a diverse community can do many good things to your mind and you'll learn many different things from different people and their cultures. American society is still dealing with racism. There are many examples around which easily show how the darker skinned people of the USA are still being put to the side, and judged harshly. There are people who I've seen on the streets give a man with a darker skin color some money after he said that he wasn't homeless. I've seen people push other people around just because they don't like how they look. Everyone's a human, and should be treated equally. This argument goes toward both sides of the community. There are people saying that some of the cops are racist just because they killed another African-American man while the same thing happens to a white man just as much. These evidences still show how people should equally treat each other the same even if you look different, people are still people and always will be. Treat others by who they are after you learn about them and don't "judge a book by its cover".

Since the start of this great country, America is dealing with racism, as is every other country. We have and always will be dealing with racism. People do not like things that are different, and that includes each other. If it's not racism, it's sexism, or discriminating against someone for their job, age, or any other small thing that is different. As much as some people like to think that racism is not present, it still very much is.

Racism is believing that you are objectively better than someone who is culturally, ethnically, or religiously different than you. Most racism can be easily traced back to an event in history, such as the African slave trade, the forced migration of the Native Americans, and the Mexican war. America is undoubtedly still dealing with racism today, as is most of the modern world. Although racism isn't as severe, or as bad as it used to be, it still exists in American society. Racism cannot be removed from American society very easily, as there is little way to convince a large group of people to change. The only way that racism can be eliminated is slowly, over time. There have already been two major anti-racism reform movements, the Emancipation proclamation during the Civil war, and the civil rights movements. Both made changes, and resulted in less racism, but failed to eliminate it entirely. Its a sad reality that the only way to end racism is slowly, over a long period of time.

Racism is discriminating a race thinking that another race is better. Racism is not as bad as it used to be, but it is still a big problem here in the United States. I believe that racism is not a good thing and that under the constitution it say all men are created equally. It is also difficult to get rid of racism because the First Amendment states that people have freedom of speech. Racism used to be even worse though. People with a different skin color were thrown in jail for no reason, except for they had a different skin color. White children and black children where not allowed to be near each other. They had to go to different schools, bathrooms, and even drinking fountains. This also taught children of the white race to believe they were better than people with different colored skin. Racism has always been a bad thing and continues today.

Racism is when people discriminate against people of a different race or ethnicity. Racism is just bullying a specific group of people. One Time I had a friend that was black and people would stereotype him by saying that he’s going to steal stuff and go to jail in the future and that hurt him I hear about the different stories on the news. Yes I do most the time it is in small cases but those can add up to make a huge problem. No I don't but I have seen it happen in my community.

We are dealing with Racism today in the United States. Racism is the belief in the superiority of one race over another, which often results in discrimination and prejudice towards people based on their race or ethnicity. I've had many experiences with many ethnic groups such as African Americans, Hispanics, and Italian Americans. Some of my friends fit in one theses races, and they taught me some things like don't listen to what others think about you, and treat others on how you want to be treated. So, there is a lot these people have taught me, that they had to go through or they are still going through. Which is horrible. You know the saying don't judge a book by it's cover, it's like the same thing, don't judge a person by their outside appearance because if you get to know the person or the book you may like him/her or the book!

The definition of racism is prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior. When I hear about racism or someone being racist, I think it is when people are being mean and not treating people who look different from them poorly. I don't encourage racism, and I don't know anyone who does. I think it is important to inform people, and kids especially, about racism and teach them about what it is and how people feel about it, so they might grow up agreeing it's bad too. Yes, racism is still alive in America. There has been many fights and protests dealing with racism all over America. Now, many citizens of America want to shut the Mexicans out. I don't understand why people think like this, and I think it needs to stop. Many probably don't think about how it would feel to be in the other sides shoes, and how it would bring them down.

Racism is when someone is treating another person different due to the culture that they have and the skin color they have. I think that yes it has gotten better from what it was in the past but racism is still something that is going on. How I like to learn about different cultures and I think is very beneficial is to visit other places and see how they do things. Another thing is research people's cultures look up how they do thing. I believe that everyone should be treated equal that no one should be treated less due to their skin color or the beliefs that they have.

Racism is when someone says something or does something negatively to someone that is different from theirs, whether it is skin tone, race, or culture. I have never really experienced racism myself, nor have I scene others being racist to one an other. Other than living in Allendale, I did live in Grand Rapids for most of my childhood which is a very diverse place, the school I went to still wasn't a very diverse in race, it was however compared to Allendale. But even then from what I experienced most people respected each other. The school I went to in Grand Rapids did have a lot of migrant workers, they would come for blueberry and corn season and then leave for Florida in the fall right before winter. I have learned about different cultures by being able to experience how they do things. Do I think America is still dealing with racism, I think there are people out there that are racist, but compared to what America used to be like (slaves and segregation) I don't think so.

I believe that racism is treating people differently because of their ethnicity or their appearance. I have seen people be racist and it’s not right. I believe that there is still racism in American but not as much. In America there has been a White police officer shooting a African American. Some of these shooting where to stop something bad from happening but also some were just not right.

I believe racism is showing a bias towards your race because you believe that it is superior. It's not as bad as it used to be like mass killings or huge riots leading to police brutality in the streets. Today it can be seen as a joke with others making fun of stereotypes. Racism is still around in America and has caused some problems like mass shootings. America is dealing with it good though because we are still a diverse country. You can learn a lot of things from different races like new foods, languages, activities and more. I don't recall of any racism in my community towards me and others.

Racism in America is kept alive by people who are to concerned with being "politically correct" and believe absolutely everything people say or do is racist. Some people are white, some people are black, some people are brown. This is a simple fact of life and people have to stop saying things such as color dosnt exist because it does, however we shouldent treat them differently because we are all humans and deserve rights. Racism in America is a part in American history that people refuse to move on from and want to keep bringing it up and complaining about racism that hardly exists which makes it a larger issue then it has to be. It is as tho as soon as one thing happens people jump on it and assume that the system is against them and all races do this, as soon as something happens they make the claim they are being discriminated against which simply isnt true.

Racism is prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior. I would define Racism as a negative attitude toward a different race believing that one's own race is better than that specific group. Although I haven't had that many experiences with racism between me or another culture. I can learn about the people from different cultures by being polite, being observative of their daily habits and personality traits, and have a language translator with me so I can understand them better. I believe that America is still dealing with racism even today. However I haven't seen much racism in my community so much as gender competition. Some whites often discriminate against black people because of their skin color or religion. The Blacks might also have prejudice towards whites because of how lucky Whites are to have a better employment opportunities than Blacks do. Racism is not a very enjoyable or necessary part of society. If all cultures, religions, and race were treated better or equally, it would avoid feuds as well as create better interactions among others in society. Overall racism should not be required in a society.

Racism to me is discrimination against another persons race. I was taught that it doesn't matter of the person skin color it is of their character and the way they act. Everyone is unique in there own way and no one is better than anyone else especially the color of your skin. I am the only mixed/African American person in my family and people always ask how am I part of the family. Racism is still present in today's society but it was not as bad back in the day. Yes it is not as bad but it is still a bad thing. Judging a person just because of their skin is wrong and should never be done.

Racism is the belief that there are human groups with particular (usually physical) characteristics that make them superior or inferior to others. Racist behaviour can be not just overt, such as treating some people according to their race or colour, but also covert, when society systematically treats groups according to some form of discriminating judgement. prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior. Racism isn't a big thing as it used to be long time ago. Yes i think america is still dealing with racism. Everyone deals with racism in their country, not just one but most of the countries deal with it. Racism is kinda dumb like we are all the same people just different color skin that's what makes us unique don't make fun of someone just because they are either too white or too dark.

According to google racism is, prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior. Racism is still in America just like it still is in other places in the world. Now I don't get out a lot and meet other people but the people I do meet happen to be white. Does that make me racist? I learn about different cultures form school and honestly if from my self. If I think their culture sounds cool and I want to learn more about that culture and maybe not a different culture because it is not appealing to me does that make me racist? Now because I am white it doesn't mean I don't feel racism in my own community or even in the world. One thing I don't get about this country is how they see racism in jobs. 1 out of 1 million white people make it in the NBA and 42 out of 1 million black people make it into the NBA. Now these black people make it in to the NBA not because they are black but because they actually are good at basket ball and are better then the other white people. Now imagination a job where one black person and one white person where trying to get the same job and the white person won. Most likely people would call this racist because they would say "They gave the job to him because he was white!" but maybe that's not true. Maybe the white person was actually was more qualified then the black person. People now a days try to find racism in every thing like back in 2017 when ESPN launched a 28 hour program of auctioning off players for fantasy football. Every thing was fine until they auctioned off Odell Beckham Jr as one of the players and the person that won the bid happened to be white. So apparently this is a resemblance to buying slaves back then. Wow. People are mad since President Trump got elected and they think it is racist that he wants to deport ILLEGAL immigrants back to Mexico and then build a wall to stop this from happening again. These Illegal immigrants MIGHT have been voting in elections under President Obama. If you vote in elections without being a legal citizen you can be put in prison, fined, and even DEPORTED. So when they say "Trump can't do that....that is racist" No, it's really not but that is if they voted in the election. I don't think racism is ever going to go away because that is just the way humans are. Because we have different skin tones we will think that we are better than others. (Not sure if I did this correctly)

Racism is when we group people by their skin color and put every group on a different size podiums with our race on the tallest and biggest podium. Of course America still have racism. It's something that I don't think we can ever escape. The foundation of racism is simply the mind set that I am better than you. It is human nature to compare yourself to others, hoping that we'll be as good as them or to prove that we're better. In racism we take the superficial aspects like skin color and try to pare it with the important parts of our character, we then say that because we have the superficial aspect we also have that important part of our character, (such as how intelligent or creative we are). This leads us to comparing all the superficial aspects of ourselves to others. It's amazing that our world is making progress to end racism. But I believe it is something that will always stay with us until the whole world is a mixed race. But even then we always find a way to compare themselves to someone else, in hopes that we are better.

Racism is still alive in America today, racism to me is a discrimination against the opposite color or race, basically based on someones "beliefs" that one should not be treated equal. I personally think that racism isn't something that America or any place should have, most kids growing up know that racism is not something that should be expressed, it is against a lot of peoples belief culture.I don't even think you should really try to go against another culture that maybe is unknown or that you don't really have a fond with, it's not right to just call people names or make fun of who they are as a community.

To me, racism is a group of people who are the same, making like a living hell for someone who has a different skin color or ethnicity. In my opinion I don't know why people couldn't listen to their mothers and treat everyone how you want to be treated. Respect plays a huge role in being racist, if you don't have any self respect, chances are, you don't have any respect for yourself either. In the long run, each and individual person deserves to be equal to the guy next door. People lost respect for not only themselves and others, but they lost respect for words and feelings.

I think Racism is a little worse today than it has been ever. Even if you say there in'st racism there probably will always be some kind of racism. Like some people make stupid jokes using the N word or think there so funny when they make a racist joke but they don't even know they said a racist joke. I am just trying to say that there will always be racists and people who make fun of it I think it is the worst possible thing in the world to be racist it is stupid and intelligent. But some stupid white people will always think whites are better than Blacks which is so dumb everyone should be equal god made everyone equal in his heart but not everybody shows it. So I think racism is the dumbest thing in the world.

Racism is the discrimination or segregation of a type of people. Racism used to be a huge thing and it has calmed down a bit in the last 50 years. Racism will always be a thing, and it sucks to say that. Some people just how wrong it is to discriminate a certain race just because of what they've been stereotyped to be like. No one is perfect and you cannot judge anyone just because you heard how one person of that race acted. In my opinion we should all be united together and solve these problems as a team.

Racism is the discrimination of people of a different race than you. To define racism is a hard thing to do because there are so many different types of racism. One type of racism is calling someone a name or leaving them out of a game or talk because of the color of there skin. Another type of racism is beating and torturing a man or woman because of the color of there skin, the way they dress, there religion, and many more differences. Diversity in my opinion is a great quality in a country, racism is not. Racism is hurting people of all color and religion and ethnicity. No matter if your physically hurting them or if your calling them names your still causing them pain. Racism is a horrible thing that a lot of people do. Racism is treating someone different because they are different.

I think racism is when people are treated different because of the color of their skin. When people are racist to other, many of them do it because they think they're more important than someone else. I am Asian and I have been treated different because of the color of my skin. When I was younger there were some people that would make fun of me because of the color of my skin and where I came from. I think people are racist to other people because they aren't confident in themselves. If they bring other people down, it supposedly helps bring them up. People think that it's funny to make jokes about other people's culture and looks, but really we are all the same. I haven't exactly seen people being racist to other people, I have only experienced it myself. I am friends with several different ethnicities and I don't care what people look like or what their culture is. I think people are dealing with racism all over America, but I haven't seen a lot of racism in Allendale. I'm sure there is racism going around in Allendale, but I'm fortunate enough not to be around when it happens.

What is racism? Racism is antagonizing one specific race or someone of a certain color. Some people think that other races are better or worse but really we are all just humans living our lives. Most people that are racist only are because they have never felt someone being racist to them, so they don’t know the hurt people feel when they get criticized if they are of another color. There will always be racism in the world and it is the worst thing because every man and woman should be equal and not discriminated.

People are being racist everyday against people they think are different or less important they want to think of themselves as better or smarter or more athletic and they think that being racist and discriminatory will achieve this. They are ignorant of the claim that "all men are created equal" and that no matter what your color what your religion or what your views are in life you are created equal. You are the no more important than anyone is the world. Your color or views don't make you somehow any better that someone with other colors or views. This makes racism wrong it is thinking that you are better than someone else. When in reality if you got to know the person you are being racist against you would find that they are not so much different than yourself . And even if they are different differences are not always bad they just create diversity which makes the community better more structured. I think that America is still dealing with racist comments or actions. I think that Allendale has some racism in it I think we are less racist than some communities but still can improve.

Racism is the discrimination of a person or people based on their ethnicity and culture, it is a comparison almost of two people different types of people in the mindset that one is better than the other. I myself do not have a ton of experience with racism as I live West Michigan. But rather we have learned about it in various topics in school such as the Holocaust, Hitlers Aryan race, Martin Luther King Jr., etc. I think that we still do have a small amount of racism in this country but it is not nearly bad as it used to be. The racism today seems to be more subtle and not as obvious. I would say that currently the issue of racism falls into a topic that is largely exaggerated by the media. They make outlandish accusations based on the smallest little thing. Racism isn't a massive problem in our country, it's just media looking for the smallest little thing to be viewed as racist even when it isn't. It may be a touchy topic, but cop shootings are constantly being viewed as racist even when they really aren't. If we all just lived by the rule treat others as you would want to be treated I don't think we would have any form of problem anymore with racism.

Racism: Prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior. When I think of racism what I normally think of is people being unkind and treating people with different color skin tones poorly. I don’t have any personal experiences with racism but I have seen and heard about many incidences that included racism on TV and from people I talk to. I think that racism is definitely still around in America. For example, ISIS has recruited several Syrian people that have set off terrorist attacks around the world. Since those people were Syrian many people say that all Syrians are now bad and are terrorists. Just because skin color and country that they call home they shouldn’t be treated poorly just because something one person did. Many people now don’t want to let Syrian Refugees in which I think is bad if it is only because of something one person did. I think a good way to learn about cultures different from your own is to travel. Whether it is to a different country or just a different city that has differing cultures, both places can be great ways to learn about other countries and in turn limit or even stop racism. I think there is people dealing with racism in America. I think there might be as well in Allendale but I haven’t seen any personally.

When I hear the word “racism” or “racist” I remember the one time in 7th grade when I was riding the bus home from school with my friend, some kid on the bus was saying some really mean things to her because she was black. When we got off the bus she instantly started crying. I will never forget that day because of some kid who felt the need to say mean things about her just because of the color of her skin, and I will never forget how horrible it made her feel.

Racism is the discrimination against different people and how they look or what they are known for. Yes, America still has racism today not as much as it has had in the past. Racism is defined by the color of your skin or your ethnic background you have. I think people have gotten so use to having people of different cultures and race that it becomes second nature. You learn this by the media and news you hear what people of that race has done. Its the different views people have on the world and the way they think should be done.I don't think race is about the color of peoples skin anymore I think its more about the different views of right and wrong, religion, and even sexuality. I have never experienced racism, but I realize it happens all the time. It shouldn't be seen happening to people. People shouldn't judge people by the actions some people there race has done. People should realize its all the differences that make everything so beautifully diverse.

Racism is discriminating against someone because of their ethnicity, culture, or religion. Racism has been a part of America since it's founding almost 250 years ago. Back then Africans and African Americans were slaves and only counted as 3/5 of a person. In 1865, all slaves were freed but that didn't mean people were going to stop hating them. The biggest genocide in history is about racism. Between 1939 and 1945, 6 million people were killed because people couldn't stand their religion. We need to teach people that discrimination and racism are not okay and needs to be dealt with.

Racism, to me, is a discrimination against someone because of their skin color and/or their culture because some people think that they are superior to others because of their own skin color. I think that it is so wrong to label someone or judge someone because of their skin color. No one got to choose what culture they were going to come from. No one got to pick if they were going to have dark skin or white skin. In America today, I do not see much racism and I do not see people being against someone because they are dark or white, but there still is some and sometimes I do hear jokes being made about people of color. These jokes are usually being made by people who are just messing around and people who are not serious when they say these jokes. To me, I do not see these jokes to be racist, but they can always be taken too far. Of course in the past there was a bunch of racist people who were proud of who they were or what they were doing with all the African-Americans and that most of southern America used to have many slaves, but we do not see that nowadays. Today we see many cultures working together weather it be in the government or in a small office.

Racism is the discrimination of a person because of the color of their skin. Racism and segregation are still happening today and I see that everywhere in society. The Declaration of Independence states that all men are created equal and Martin Luther King gave a speech in 1963 speaking about a dream where all men were treated equally. Still in 2018 we have only had one African American president, our current president is focusing on a wall to keep people of a different race out , and every time I look out into a sea of politics, all I see is white men. We cannot blame our young generations for being racist while the government has only had one black president and no women president. We grow up in a government and a school that is predominately white, so of course we will be wary of anyone of a different race. One of the most beautiful things about America is the diversity and still in school, right now, almost all of the kids are white. We need to stop racism by bringing people in and not shutting them out.

At 6:44 yesterday morning, police in Austin, Texas were notified of a package explosion. Hours later there was a second explosion in the same area. March 2nd, the first of these bombings had occurred. A package on someone's doorstep is not the only thing that connects these instances. The first man was black, the seventeen-year-old boy was black. Now, they are both dead. The third victim, a Latina elderly woman, has been severely injured. Police now think these occurrences are hate crimes against people of color in the Austin area. So, many are subject to live in fear this week. Just as Trayvon Martin was killed while in fear, just as Martin Luther King Jr. lived in fear for his children, and the slaves lived in fear of their lives. So, how can we say we live in a post-racist America when people of color are being treated the same way they've been treated on this soil for four hundred years? We could go back to the beginning, to the roots of colonialism and entitlement. We can follow the rise of white Nationalism, of the trading of Africans, of the slaughtering of the Native Americans. We can look at the hypocrisy of our Founding Fathers, slave owners for freedom. We can look at the continuous quieting of black voices, the white-washing of history. Or we could simply look at today, where in America you can go free when wearing a swastika and shouting racial slurs, but are killed for protesting against them. Ever increasingly in America, our historical racism, homophobia, xenophobia, antisemitism, and other prejudices are taking center stage. It is up to all of us to decide what side of history we will take; Will it be the side that calls for the deportation of thousands of Americans, that want to blockade our country, that say over and over again that killing a black boy doesn't make you guilty? Or the side that calls for the same message Martin Luther King Jr. rallied for: justice and equality everywhere?

Racism is prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior. I don't think any race is/should ever be superior because we have many different races, and cultures, etc that we can't compare because they aren't the same. There is definitely still racism in America today, just not as much as before. There is also lots of racism all over social media.

Racism is discriminating against others for their race. It is treating real people wrongly simply because the color of their skin is different from yours. I lived in Senegal, West Africa for two years. As a white, 14-year-old girl, I was the minority. That is very different from here in the U.S., where I am, more or less, the majority. In Senegal, the people are kind and value hospitality. They love meeting new people and eating good food. But, they call me and my family toubabs, or white people. I think that there are multiple views that could be taken on this, but I don't want to talk about those. I want to talk about the fact that these racial tensions and derogatory names shouldn't come up at all. I think that whether you are white, tan, black, or any other color in between, that you should be respectful of others. You should consider the feelings of others. You should think about the fact that people are people, whatever their color. I also believe that America is still experiencing racism. From shoot-outs between police and African Americans to mostly black, white, etc. neighborhoods, we still have issues to deal with here in America. Even in our school, groups of teens who hang out together are typically the same color. I do not think that this is because of any hostility between the groups, but because these things have been like this for so long that it is integrated into society. To conclude, I think that the way we treat people should be changed. We should try to change our society so that it is not so normal and we should make our goal to welcome everyone and make each other equal.

racism is a discrimination and it is wrong, and when ever a white person says something to a person of a different color is just wrong. But I think America is over racism a little bit, but once in awhile it comes up.

Racism is still an issue that we have to deal with today in America. While it might not be as big of a problem as it was some years ago there is still racism and racist people in America. In 2018 we are still judging people based on their ethnicity, religion, and looks. My definition of racism is treating someone poorly based on what they look like or what they believe in. Personally I have not experienced racism first hand, however I have heard some racist things that people still say to this day. A lot of people think that this topic isn’t serious or important and that we should just laugh about it. When in reality this is a very important topic that should be discussed as to how we should put an end to it. I believe that everyone should be treated with the same respect and equality towards each other no matter their belief, religion, or ethnicity. Everyone is different and has different cultures and we should embrace them and their cultures instead of hating them.

Racism is when a group of people are treated worse than everybody around them. Racism is still a big issue in not just the United States of America; it is a big issue around the whole world. I think the United States of America is still dealing with racism because whenever you listen to the news, you hear thing about racism.

Racism to me is a ignorance that is brought up against a certain race or people group that you were taught in your household. My family has taught me to respect people for who they are and not based off what they look like, how much money they have. My mom says people are people and we are people too. I'm pretty much caucasian so I see for this era racism targeted towards Hispanics and African Americans. I haven't had any experience with racism I mostly see in on the news and media. In this age I learn about other cultures through media and music and the African American rapper that I like, Tyler, the Creator says racism came from his own race. He liked to skateboard as a kid and people would see him and say he was acting like a “white boy” and he hated that because he couldn't be himself. I feel like whites are being labeled as racist against African Americans in the media a little to much because all people are not like what they portray us as. So yes there is racism in America still today .

Racism is discrimination against someone of a different race or religion based on someone else's belief. In my own words, I define racism as how someone act or feels against someone that is different than them. Either in religion, color or their skin, or their beliefs. During my life I have never had someone be racist to me, but I have seen and heard people being racist to others. This could be as a joke that could have gone a little bit to far, but could also be attentional to hurt someone about their differences and are unique and special in every person. How I learn about other people and different cultures is in school. In US history last year, is one thing that really showed me how racism began in the 1930s when it was a big deal in the USA. Also in English right now. When we are reading these speeches about people who have experienced racism, I realize that this is a big thing that is happening in America in that era. This used to be a really big problem in the 1900s, but now I don't think that racism is as bad as it once was. I think that it is still present today, but not as bad as it was and many people are realizing that we are all equal and the same no matter what the color of our skin is or how our beliefs are. Everyone is created equal no matter who they are.

Racism is discrimination against another person who has a different race or ethnicity as you. I think people who are racist don't understand the ability to "accept" other people. Usually when you get to know someone, before you judge, you will learn all of the facts about their background and race. Some people just take rumors or myths and use that to define someone. I think that is what happens mostly when it comes to racism. Lots of people today still are racist, but I don't think it's bad as it was. America is still dealing with racism. It has definitely gotten better since 1964, but there are still people out there trying to fight. I might be totally oblivious to it, but I don't think there are any problems with racism in our town or community.

Racism is the action of treating a different race than your own in a negative way. This is at least how I think racism is defined. This is one of many different definitions. I believe that people with different experiences will define this term in their own unique way. Personally, I don't have many experiences with different races. This is mostly due to the west Michigan culture I grew up in. Allendale specifically is a very white dominated area. However the few friends I have from different culture and that have a different race than me are very normal. They are just like any other person you would meet in Allendale. They just happen to have a different skin color. All of the friends I have that are a different race, are just like my other friends. Yes when you first meet them you may have a preconceived idea of what they are like. But once you get to know them, the way they look fades away. You only see them as an amazing friend and for their character. If you are not in a racial diverse place, such as Allendale, it's still important to learn about other cultures. This way you know appropriate ways to treat other who are different from you, those of the same race or not! I think that America is doing better than it used to when it comes to racism. We are making situations more equal for all. There is still some work to do. But changing peoples minds and thought processes, takes time and is difficult. I personally do not see a ton of racism. I think that stereotypes are still very common. In a high school this may seem normal, and there is always a preconceived notion of how someone may be. As a white girl in Allendale High school, I don't receive any torment as others may have for their race. I am proud to say that from my perspective Allendale is an accepting community.

Racism is discriminating others because of their race. I would define racism as the belief that one race is superior over another. I don't have too much experience with people who are of a different culture and ethnicity. I believe that experience is the best teacher. so if you want to learn about different cultures and ethnicity you should go to a place where it has that specific one you want to learn about. I think that there isn't racism in America on the broad scale. But there people who will always think about other people in that way. I don't experience it in my community.

Racism is the discrimination of a certain person or people. Racism is where you think your color skin, culture, or looks determine your rights and treatment. I have a mixed/African-american cousin who gets asked the same question everyday “How can you be related to her?”, it’s not impossible, but people make it seem like it’s a bad thing. I have learned to not judge people on their looks, cultures, etc. It’s not right to just assume a person is a bad person when you haven’t even met or talked to them. I believe America is still dealing with racism. There are many people immediately blaming different cultured people for actions they may have not done. For example, ISIS. ISIS claims to be an Islamic group creating people to be afraid or mad at Islamic immigrants. I haven’t experienced racism in my community, but I have seen or heard of racism being used.

Racism is a hard topic to write about because it cant be stopped, no matter what we do nobody will stop it. Yes, it is a bad thing to judge someone when they were born like that and you cant do anything about your skin color. In my personal belief nobody should be judged, but that wont happen. We are all the good Lords children and we are all made the same way but some people do different things and pursue what they want.

Racism is the belief that one person is less superior than you are because of there ethnicity or skin color. I think that it has gotten better over the years I mean there are not slaves anymore so it definitely has gotten better. I haven't experienced racism personally but we are still dealing with racism each day, you see it on the news and you see it in articles even in the police force. so racism obviously hasn't gone away but I hope someday it does stop because it's not right.

In my opinion, I believe that America is still dealing with racism today, but I also believe that it will not go away. I have seen people being racist towards others, but not a specific experience. Racism is not as bad as it was as it was a long time ago. People before would not even let African Americans drink out of the same water fountain as whites. Now, everyone is accepted, but racist slurs are kept to themselves. I think that it is culture based. People go to groups that they find most similar to themselves. It's not something that they can help, it's natural. I think there are problems with racism, but not nearly as much as there was, and it's not going to go away.

Racism is prejudice against another race based on the idea that one’s race is superior. I have never experienced racism first hand but I hear about it almost everyday. It is still a big problem in America today. I think that it’s a good thing racism is a topic being talked about on social media and other platforms like that. It is bringing to light some of the problems that still occur everyday. I think that I don’t experience it or see it as much because Allendale is a predominantly caucasian school. Racism can be interpreted in many different ways, depending on who you are. Some may joke around about it and say something racist, not trying to discriminate against someone, but rather trying to be funny. Nobody should even joke around about it because it could be interpreted as being very racist to some people. I think that there will always be racist people around and we can’t change that overnight, but if we bring light to these problems, maybe it will be better in the future.

I believe that racism is thinking about that you are better than a person based on color. I also believe that a white person for example could be racist to another white person. Racism is still a problem in America today. Even though racism isn't as much present in America today, it still happens. I think racism is all the world as well. I personally believe that every human on this planet who has seen another human of a different skin color has thought of them different. I'm not saying that they hate them or act different to them, but I think they could of thought of the other skin color differently. Its just a natural thing that humans do. We can't ever completely eliminate racism for good, but we can defiantly help the situation. I've definitely seen racism before, not so much in our community, but in northern places or big cities. An example of evidence is in Galatians 3:28 where Paul wrote: "There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus." This clearly describes that everyone is equal even with differences in gender, job, race, etc. This is why everyone should be created equal.

Racism is the act of discriminating against another race and going against someone else's race. Racism has been in the world for centuries. Personally I don't think racism is going to go away, we can get better at it, but there will always be people using racism against someone with different skin color, different religion, or different culture. I've seen tons of racism, with history and slavery, World War 1 and 2, white cops harassing and killing black people for no reason. People can just make up stereotypes and they will stick with races forever. I don't know why racism is a thing, and I believe that it should stop. Why should they care about the color of someone else's skin color when they can be caring about who they are. Some people don't even experience the culture, and they start discriminating it or their skin color. Everyone's goal should be to stop racism, because no one like's racism, like what's the point of discriminating someone's skin color or culture if they are a good person.

I think that racism is when someone is judging them for the color, of there skin, or there culture. Because some people think that they are an superior to other people because of their own skin color. In my opion, I think that it is wrong for people to do that. Nobody should be judging them, for their own skin color. Nobody gets to even pick if they want whie skin, or dark skin. Nobody gets to pick where they came from. In America today, I do not see as much rascims, for people judging them if they are dark or white. But there is still some of it. Nobody should even joke around with this because it could, just hurt someone bad, and you may think its a joke, but they may not.

Racism is someone judging, or making rude comments about someones skin color, their culture, and how they were born. Essentially, their race. I know that where I am from, everything is diverse. Nobody is the same. African American, Mexican, White, Chinese, Asian, and Japanese walk around everywhere and it's completely normal; there is no harm in it. We learn about culture and race in just about every class. In english we talk about famous authors and who they are and read text about it, in history we learn the actual history of what had happened. It's everywhere, surrounding us and all. I definitely think America is still struggling with racism, I think everywhere is. I also think it's much better than it once was as well, we have it under control to a certain extent and that's good. I personally don't experience racism in my own community, besides the couple high school kids who think it's okay to throw around the "N word" from time to time. Many whites think that we have supremacy, and that's not true. We don't make up the world, we can't degrade other races yet it happens all the time. There is a vast amount of inequality in the world as well, even though African Americans and Whites are allowed to do the same things, there is still the inequality and the thought that one is better than the other always. Bigotry is also a big deal in today's society, it's a crime to not think the same as others and people can be very shamed for such an act. I believe racism still exists, some are just blind to it.

Racism is discrimination of people with different skin colors, ethnicity, or cultures. Racism is still a problem that the world deals with everyday. In my opinion racism is not okay in any way and should not be occurring. My experiences with different ethnicity and cultures has definitely shaped the way i think of racism. My family was fortunate enough to be able to adopt my little brother from Ethiopia. My family and I had the chance to learn about their culture and how it differed from ours. This was an amazing experience that was very eye opening and I gained a lot of respect for other cultures. Our community isn't very diverse, but if it was i would hope that racism would not be very common and we could respect other cultures.

Racism is treating people differently based on where their were born and or skin color. I have not ever really witnessed a true act of racism in person, but I understand that its still a problem. However it is no where near as much of a problem as it once was. Most people are under the belief that everyone was created equal and should have equal rights, but there are some who believe otherwise. Racism is a problem that will most likely never go away, but racists will always be the minority. Most people agree that being racist is often linked with being naive, and self centered.

Racism is discrimination against someone of a different race or religion based on someone else's belief I have never experienced racism, but I realize it happens all the time. It shouldn't be seen happening to people.Racism and segregation are still happening today and I see that everywhere in society. The Declaration of Independence states that all men are created equal. No one got to choose what culture they were going to come from. No one got to pick if they were going to have dark skin or white skin. Racism is prejudice. Racism is prejudice directed against someone of a different skin color or belief in order to prove that one's race is superior. I have never personally experienced racism myself, but i can safely say that everybody has been exposed to some sort of racial comment in there life. Whether they heard it or made it themselves. In the society we live in today, it's "funny" to make jokes about things that actually really hurt. I think that is one of the reasons why racism is still a big issue today. I feel people are racist because they don't fully understand the culture they are discriminating. Instead of filling your head with hate, fill it with the knowledge of cultures beyond your own. Pick up a book, ask questions. I see racism every day, in our school alone. Sadly, we are definitely still having to deal with racism.

Racism is looking at someone that is just as human as you are and thinking that you are superior towards them, that you are better then them, smarter, etc. It is discrimination towards a person who is a different skin color or ethnicity then white persons. I think about some of my best friends who are Asian or my little brother who is Mexican and every single time I have a conversation with them or even just look at them, everything is the same they are just as human as I am, they have the same feelings as I do, they can function the same way as I can and just because we have different colored skin and look a little bit different doesn't mean that we act any differently or we should treat one another any differently. I believe that racism in america is still having to be dealt with today. I think that people address it a lot more often and yes it is a much more fair world but also our world is 10x worse then it used to be based on how we all treat each other and value each other's existence. I think that people who are racist just say thing's that they might not mean and it can come across as racist, they might just take there conversations they are having a little to far. Also people are still intentional with what they say and still think they are better then a colored person, or someone who speaks a different language, or has a different religion. I think it is a serious problem and needs to be ended once and for all. Because we are all human, we are all equal. Each and every one of us should have the same opportunities as each other to succeed and achieve greatness.

Racism is the term used to define what happens when one person judges another's skin, character, culture and ethnicity. Some of the often experiences I have dealt with is when people say "This is so racist" or other terms similar to that even when people are joking around or use it as a metaphor or simile it's honestly not funny or a good term to use based off of the history of America and other countries who still today believe it's a right to be racial or partake in discrimination. With this thought I feel America is still dealing with racism just as if it was the 1900's on a smaller scale than what has happened in the past. (i.e: Back then it wasn't as bad as today but we still deal with the harsh words and discrimination.) Also many times I have heard the term..."S/he is so gay!" This makes me also feel like racism is present even if the person whom may have said this term and was joking and was talking to friends to be funny with them. I feel it isn't right for the people who are gay, because anyone can have deep regards for anyone as long as they feel it is right to them.

In my opinion, Racism is when one ethnicity treats another poorly to convey the idea that they are better. It can come through harm or just treating others differently because they are different. America does not have as bad of a problem with racism today but it has had problems with this before. I luckily don't have to deal with racism in my life but i do encounter people of different ethnicities. I have worked with people of different color, different origins and from different countries. I don’t learn much from other people about their backgrounds. The social injustice that I see most is gender because so many people have different opinions about it.

Racism is when one person believes another ethnic group isn’t good enough and that they don’t deserve basic rights. I’ve personally never seen an act of racism before, but I’ve heard a lot about it, and it’s very sad knowing that people believe that other humans are worth less than them. To learn about different cultures, you need to go to see and experience the culture to know what they do, and how they live. I do think America is still dealing with racism, but I don’t think there is very much of it. I do not experience much racism here, but I have heard of some places paying female workers less, which I think is as bad as racism.

Racism is prejudice towards someone or a group of people of another race than their own formed on the belief that one’s race is superior to the other. My experience with people of other ethnicities is quite the same as talking to any person. There is not much of a difference, but sometimes there’s either decorations or different foods. Other than the small cultural perspective of things; all people are human. I learn about different cultures through my experiences and the teachings of a mentor. America is dealing with racism to this present day, but I do not experience racism within my own community. Other than racism, I see plenty of disliking towards people who are not straight in the community. The people of Allendale have been raised in such a way, but it’s time to grow out of old habits just like hatred towards African Americans, genders, or any sort of hatred of the matter.

What is racism? Racism is prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism against someone of a different race because you think their race is superior to your own. Racism is a word that is often thrown around too much, most people don't even use the word right, let alone know what it means. America still seems to have a problem with racism, whether people realize it or not.

Racism is the constant harassment of a person of the different race. One major thing for many people to remember is that racism is still current in our society today. Some still use words that are simply mean and hurtful to people of the different race. I have had many experiences with people of different cultures and they are still human and often do many of the same things as most of others in other cultures. I often learn about different cultures through the different areas I visit. Many of the places I visit are very diverse and have many cultures making it one town. I do believe there is racism still existing today. Many people from other cultures have disadvantages that brought on by people who think they are superior over the person. Like when there are still white supremacy rallies still happening in our country. Racism has gotten better, but there are many ways where we aren't living up to MLK's "I have a dream" speech.

What is racism and equality? is one of many questions with a perpetual answer. Each person has their own view on if there is racism, what racism is, who it effects, etc. It’s not like answering a math problem where there is always a solid framework to solve the equation. Their is never going to be an actual answer to the questions of racism and inequality or if America is still battling it. Racism is something that I Have dealt with. One my experiences with racism is when a group of Hispanics formed a “gang”. They would push me around, steal my stuff, call me names, and other stupid childish things. I think that racism is a problem if you make it a problem. For example a student tells another student that he is ugly and doesn't let him play with the class toys; yea it sucks for the student but it’d be stupid to freak out about something so small. So at the end of the day I think racism is only a problem if people make it a problem, but life's too short to worry about things that aren’t life changing.

Racism is discrimination towards a certain person or group. Someone may be against a persons skin color, religion, etc. I have friends that are of all different races and I see them as just a normal human being. I have friends that are African american, Mexican, and Caucasian. I have thankfully never experienced racism towards myself, but I have heard racist comments or jokes. Almost everyone has heard some inappropriate comment about someone's race. This can be a huge issue because it is extremely offending to the person or group you are talking about. These jokes are proof that there is still definitely racism in America today. I think that racism used to be a bigger issue in America's past, and that it has gotten better. The law in America now is that everyone is treated equal no matter what their race is. Back in the 1800's and 1900's that wasn't the case. Overall I think that racism is still an issue, but it has gotten better. We are all human so we all should be equal. Everyone should get the same experiences and opportunities as each other.

In my own words I would define racism as hatred towards certain ethnic group or race for being different then what one might think is “normal”. I learn about people from cultures that differ from my own from history classes the internet. I do think America is still dealing with racism but not to the extent it was sixty years ago because even though African Americans now have all equal rights to white people they are still not accepted by people who are racists or they are discriminated in certain circumstances. I do not experience racism in my community, but I see and hear stories on the news and interest of racism going on in different parts of the country.

In simple words, racism is basically the criticism and hate of a person from another relating to one's color of skin. In my lifetime, I don’t feel that America has had very intense racism in today interactions as much as it did two hundred years ago. America doesn't have the widespread and popular idea of racism against one another either. Of course racism still exists, just not as much as it was before. I have learned many different cultures from my community as well as others from walking through streets and observing people and things around me. There are other things around that are still criticism, like who people are attracted to. I'm not very involved in politics in this point in my life, but I know that there has been a lot of disputes within the government.

Racism is prejudice towards people who have different skin colors and cultural backgrounds. Racism is feeling that your race is superior to all the others and feeling hatred for those who aren't the same as you. My father's side of my family is Italian and they are immigrants from Italy. They have told me about the experiences they've had with racism. They have been called offensive names, been told to leave the country, and also told they are not real American citizens. I personally do not think America is dealing with racism. I feel racism has gotten worse over the years and will continue to get worse if we don't try and fix it now. I think this issue has been going on far too long and we need to stop it once and for all. Everyone should have equal rights, we are all human and our skin color should not determine our worth and our rights. We should all respect each other even if someone has a different skin color, culture, and ethnicity.

I have have not seen to much racism were I live. we still deal with racism though like down in Detroit were cops go and kill or arrest black people just because they are black. we also deal with a new type of racism against gay people. we need to except that black people are Americans to and stop treating them badly.

I haven't seen somebody being rude or judgmental to someone about there skin color but I know today there is still racism going on. Racism today is not as close to bad as how it was back then but it I think it is still going on. I believe in my community there is no racism.

Racism is constant discrimination on another race. Racism is something that has been around and has been a problem for a very long time and still is. Even though we don't experience as much racism in the United States that we had in the past, we still experience a large amount of it. And I think that racism may not be as big of a problem in the future but it'll always be around because that's just the way us human beings are, especially in the society we live in today. As I've learned in school, everyone's culture is different. There's still a whole bunch of racism in other countries other than the United States. But in our community I don't really think we experience much racism. I feel that people are not judged by their ethnicity or race, but by their wealth and the amount of materials or resources they have. If you're not very wealthy and lack materials you will in fact be discriminated by the others who have both of those things. With the world we live in today, discrimination and racism will never disappear, they'll both always be hanging around like clingy little siblings.

Racism is when people judge someone before they have met by there ethnicity and background. I have had very limited experience with people of different ethnicity because I am not usually around them. I do not think that racism is a immediate problem for community because most of the people are all of similar ethnicity and even if they thought badly about people of different color they would not have very many chances to express it. I think that racism does still exist in america but is not nearly as prevalent as it was in the past. Although there are some anomaly's most of the people in america have greatly improved, and are or have already lost most of there racial prejudice. So in conclusion america has improved on dealing with racism and has come along way to extending rights to Americans.

The exact definition of racism is prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior. Racism is something that is not needed in not just America but in the whole world because it is not fair for the people that are being treated different then everyone else is. In these years racism is not as big as it was earlier but it is still there which it shouldn't be. It is wrong and it is something that shouldn't be happening. The reason this is happening is because of someones skin color and what they believe in and that is stupid. Just you believe in what you believe in and just worry about your . Most people are racist to other people because there life are not the same as the other person they are being racist to. In our community I really see nothing being racist to other people. Also in our community nothing that is going really bad.

Racism is where one race discriminates towards another race. I define racism as being against the other race and not liking what they believe in. An experience that I had was that at my old school was primarily Mexican and African-American kids. So more people were racist against those two ethnic groups. I think that we learn about other people and cultures if we are friends with them and treat them with respect. In my opinion America is still dealing with racism and we have a long way to go to get it out of our country. I don't experience it here in Allendale because it's more of a single cultured town. I personally have not experienced anything in this community but I know things like this do happen here. An example is staying away from an ethnic group or different culture because other people from there certain ethnicity have done something like terrorism or something in that category.

Racism is discriminating against others just because they have a different skin color or are just different. I haven't had a lot of experiences with racism because our area isn't very diverse. People don't treat others equally because they are different. Its not that person's fault that they have a certain skin color, so why treat them badly. I think that racism isn't as big of a problem as people make it seem. In america you hear about cop shootings, and they are always against African-Americans, but you never hear about whites being shot. The media messes with the news they don't give you all of the details. Some people see others as bad people because they do things differently. They do things the way they do it for a reason. Find out why they do a certain way, and learn from it and you may just better yourself along the way. People are always treated differently. Almost everyone in the world thinks that they are better than someone, even though no one is better than anyone.

I believe that racism is discrimination against different types of people and cultures. With the experiences that I have had I believe that all people are the same it doesn't matter what their race or culture is. I learned about it by learning about the history of our country. America is still dealing with racism, but it is better than it was a hundred years ago. I also see people discriminating against people who believe in something but have done nothing wrong. Discrimination is something that people in the United States deal with on a regular. Discrimination is such a broad topic. People get discriminated against for many reasons. The most noticeable discrimination is probably racist. It has gotten better the last hundred years but it is still there being negative to many peoples lives. Another way of discrimination is what sex you are. Women are often treated different than men . There is a lot less of sexisim in this era of humanity but a hundred years ago women were not aloud to do MANY things that men were. The United States has many things to work on with discrimination but it’s been improving and it will continue to improve.

Racism is being rude to others or giving them less rights because of their ethnicity believe that racism is not fully resolved. The problem however has gotten so much better from the past. People with different colored skin do have rights, the same as whites. Although when it comes to police brutally, blacks do seem to get it worse because of a stereotype. Stereotypes happen not only to blacks, but to absolutely everyone, and they effect people more than some would think, that is whats going on more in our society today. I often see kids making jokes about racism to be funny or make conversation, that's only in my school and community. Racism does still happen in the whole world and even bigger names participate in it.

Racism is the discrimination against someone because of their skin color, beliefs, or ethnic groups. I have not had too many experiences with racism but I know that it is something that is still dealt with today. It used to be more severe than it is now but you still see it in the news, things like cops shooting innocent kids just because they’re black. I think that it is an important topic and one that can draw heated discussions. I think that nowadays we do a good job at giving everyone a fair, equal chance and do not discriminate, especially at AHS. A good way to understand people that are different is to see things from their perspective and understand what they go through and try to understand what/how they feel.

Racism is a way of separating people by color. We don’t have a lot of problems with it in the US today. My opinion on racism is that we shouldn’t think of people with darker skin any differently because they’re like us. Another thing that we don’t have a lot of problems with is inequality. Inequality is when we don’t treat someone who’s different in color the same way we do with the same colored skin. I don’t hear people with a different skin color being made fun of or treat differently, and I’m glad we don’t have problems with that. There isn’t really a lot of problems with people’s bigotry, or different opinions, either. People’s opinions are usually either kept quiet or respected.

racism is when you treat another person of different color or background and judge then or despise them in a rude way. this has been happening in america since its discovery, and it is very wrong. i have a black friend, and he is one of my best friends. if someone were to hurt or treat him wrong i would be one of the fist to deal with it. i am very protective of my friends, i see them all as siblings because really we are. you wouldn't let some guy beat up your brother so you shouldn't let that happen to your friend. we're all the same, we're all human so we should all be treated the same.

Racism is discriminating against a person/group of people who are different ethnicity, or colors of skin. I have never experienced it in my personal life, however I have learned about it in history class, and I have seen it on TV. I think that learning about different cultures and ways of life in different places is important, so we can learn and accept that not everyone's the same, and people just need to understand that there is nothing wrong with being different. I think that racism in America has definitely gone down a notch, since nowadays it’s illegal to enslave a person and segregate them based on skin color/race. However, racism does still exist, and it has taken other forms here in America. As an example, police brutality. People of color are more likely to be treated worse by policemen than white people, and that is not the way it should be. Another example is immigration in the United States today, with the families being separated and other cruel things like that. I understand that there could possibly be a terrorist mixed in with the innocent people, but that shouldn’t mean that nobody can come into America. We are supposed to be the land of the free, after all.

Racism is prejudice and discrimination that can hurt people of any ethnic group. I would define racism as someone or a group of people that are looking for violence and minorities are the group of people that they are targeting. I have lots of friends of varied ethnic differences, some are black, Asian, Islamic, Jewish but they are all just people trying to live their lives in ways that lots of people do. I really don't have any personal experiences of experiencing what it feels like to have racially offensive things said to me, and I would never say those thing because I know that they can hurt people. I personally learn what other cultures are like because I can observe them in flesh and blood, I don't need a textbook to tell me what Jewish, or Islamic holidays are. I don't need a textbook or the internet to tell me that Blacks and Asians have been harmed because of racist acts, I can see these things. There is racism everywhere, it's in Allendale, it's in Michigan, and it will always be in the United states. The only thing that we can do to help racism dwindle to nothing is not judge other people because of their skin color or ethnic group or religion, because if someone said those things to you, you would feel pretty terrible. wouldn't you?

Racism is a sore subject within America's communities. It leaves others out from rights and kindness that others are privileged to have. Racism is the discrimination of others; the term is mainly used with race, different cultures, and beliefs. Some people may believe that they are far superior than others just because of the color of their skin, or they believe that only their beliefs matter. Because of America's diversity, Racism is a problem that has been raging on for centuries. I have never really experienced racism myself, but I have met others who believe that their gender is far superior than mine. Racism is a battle that will rage on and question our beliefs of freedom and equality. We must go on and battle this disturbance in order to accept others and for them to fully merge into our society. We should not let our cultural differences to get in the way. It doesn't matter what holidays or customs we have; every family has, and will always function differently.

Racism has always been an Issue around the world, Not just in the US. To me racism is discriminating someone for their Religion or Race. Their isn't just one group of people that can be racist. Typically when people think of the word racist they think of White people being Racist to Black People, Hispanics,Asians,Etc. However it's everyone. Not just a certain group of people. Different cultures/religions believe in different religions or traditions that can lead to Racism. Some people have certain things that "trigger" them to be racist. Some people think it's funny. Their are lots of reasons people are racist but not any of them can be justified. Racism is cruel. Discriminating people because of their race is pathetic. I think everyone should be able to do their own thing without being jerks to eachother. You don't have to get along with everyone, agree with everyone but you can at least keep your opinions to yourself. I have experienced different times people have been racist, I've seen it. But another main thing is, is you shouldn't call people racist if you don't know what it means. When people call Donald Trump racist because they dont agree with him. Dont use the word racist, accuse people of being racist if you dont even know what it means.

I believe that racism is a prejudiced view of others based on their race or ethnicity. I know that there are a lot of Americans who are not white or Caucasian that have low paying jobs, or no jobs at all because of their race. It can be harder to find a career, and some people see them as untrustworthy because of racist stereotypes. In the past I have learned about other cultures and ethnicities and how they are different than us; not how they are similar. You can't learn much about them in general just by listening to people because of how many lies can be blended into what they are saying. Often you have to take initiative to find out for yourself from unbiased sources. That is evidence as to the fact that America is still dealing with racism. Certain groups of citizens still blame people who are considered different for the problems in their lives. I have not seen racism in our community, however I am sure it is a part of the area. I have seen a large injustice done even on our school board against the LGBTQ+ community here. A lot of pain that other ethnicities have to go through is shared by the queer society. An example is the group known as CAST who not only wants to get a sex education class that excludes LGBTQ+, but they also want to remove anything of the sort from family and relations classes, and the rest of education. That is only one way that only one minority is being treated unequally.

The ideology of racism is someone thinking “they are more superior” than another being because of the color of their skin. Racism is a more multi-layered and higher complex issue than just thinking one is superior to another. It could mean so many different things than just thinking you are better than the person sitting next to you in class. Racism in America definitely still does exist, maybe not as extreme or intense as it was in 17th century but it for sure still exists. Racism nowadays that I have experienced is just a stupid joke someone makes that could offend someone. In my opinion I don't think that joke or comment someone else makes about you matters. Everyone was made in Gods perfect image and everyone was created equal. Who cares if you have darker skin or lighter skin? You are perfect just the way you are and you shouldn’t let people's beliefs or judgments on you affect that. Do people still have racist thoughts or make racist comments? Of course. That's the way society is. But should we let that affect us? No.

Racism is when people who don’t look like other people for being not like a american for example(s): Skin color, religion, culture, race, clothing, language, etc…. I define racism as when people don’t see other people as citizens to the community in america and america stands for liberty, freedom, and equality but yet, to other people who come to america they don’t be treated well like people being/say racism to other people who came to america from another country who has different culture and religion and skin color too. I learn the different cultures about other countries. America hasn’t been dealing with racism but there are still some people who are racism towards other people. I don’t have any experience with racism. There are videos on the internet and news too about racism and how people are treating other people about their culture, skin color, religion, etc….

Racism is the discrimination towards a different culture/race. When looking back at history, you can discover racism was everywhere. Those who used racism believed they were superior compared to those whose skin is different, their religion might be different, and their culture is also different. When the United States of America was created, racism was still a big issue. But, no one wanted to deal with it. So, they handed it off to the next generation, and then the generation after that. Eventually, Americans had to address the issue. Today, those who were mistreated were given rights that they were not given. But, some could not wrap their minds of the idea that everyone is created equal. So, those who were racist used violence, words, and hatred against those who were different compared to them. I personally don't see racism. But, if you wanted to all you have to do is turn on the news. An attempt to solve racism is to understand those different than us. Talking to those whose culture is different can give you a different perspective on their culture. Overall, the United States does have racism, but when we put in the time to talk to other people from different cultures we can grow more tolerant and give more acceptance to those who were discriminated.

I think racism is bad and is not how the people who made this country wanted it to be. I think that people who support it needs to get a reality check and realize that more people with different skin color or different religion are come in the US and now we are not just 2 main ethnic groups and that now we have every ethnic group in america and its gonna be that way and maybe soon there will be more of them then the 2 ethnic groups.

Yes there is still a problem with racism in America no, no it may not be as bad as it was before, but it still exists in this country. Racism is a bad thing it needs to be talked about and still needs to be talked about and needs to be acknowledged in conversations. Some people think that there isn’t any racism in America or in the world, then how do you explain when someone is totally decriminalized just based on their beliefs or their color of their skin. Racism still exists and is still something to talk about in conversations, or just over family dinner.

Sometimes they do it to feel better about themselves or supremacy or because the person doesn’t meet their standards as a person. Racism was a heavy topic and it still is now. Although racism has gotten better it still hasn't gone away. Racism in my eyes means that other people are treating others differently for the race they are. For example there are a lot of things are going around about cops treating other people differently depending on their race, such as there was this video I seen showing people kicking African americans out of a restaurant because they were in there “too long” waiting for a friend so they didn't order anything yet, so the employees called the cops.

I think that racism is a thing that should not even be a thought in the U.S., but it does. And that is something that you can’t get rid of in the U.S. because of all of the different ethnic groups in America. My experience with different ethnic groups is with my friend. My friend Adrian is half Puerto Rican and half Mexican. I would always go over to his house almost every weekend and hangout and spend the night and i got to see the things that they ate and the stuff that they did for fun and that was the biggest way of seeing the type of stuff other ethnic groups and people did other than us. I think that america still has a lot of racism in the U.S. and that is a big thing that america still has to approve on in America. In Allendale you don't see a lot of racism because most of the people in Allendale are white and that brings down the racism rate for Allendale. If you go to a city, town, or even another state you will see the different type of people other than white people. And that is what I think about this topic.

So yeah, America did not grow out of it, although people may say different. It's still there.

In my opinion America is not dealing with racism as much as it used to. There used to be so many people that were white that were absolutely horrible towards black people. Nowadays, there aren’t as many people being horrible towards them. I’m not saying that there is no racism at all because there are 7.4 billion people in the world and I’m 100% positive that at least 5,000 people (AND MORE) are still racist. That I know of we don’t have that much racism. I’ve heard people make racist jokes and I usually call them out on it, other than that I don’t hear much of people being racist. Racism has been a problem and my view on why it is horrible is… there really isn’t a reason it’s just horrible. The names people call others just because of the color of their skin is awful. And some people have beaten black people, harmed, kidnapped and even killed black people which is awful, just because the color of their skin is different, doesn’t mean we need to treat them differently. They are just like any other human being. I don’t have any experiences with racism other than calling people out from making racist jokes. There are many differences between my culture and others, they celebrate different holidays. Every culture is different and people need to respect that and accept that everyone is different and unique in their own way. Finally ha, racism to me is rude behavior directed against someone of a different race or the color of their skin, and is based on the belief that one's own race is better or superior.

Racism is the antagonism directed toward another race based on the belief that your race is superior to another. To learn about people of other races you don’t have to antagonize them or be rude to them. All you have to do is ask them good questions and be nice and understanding. I think that America is still dealing with racism, but it’s not as bad as it used to be. I do not experience or see any racism in our community. The only thing I see that is remotely close to racism is people making fun of other people that are mentally/physically disabled. Sometimes I see adults over seeing this too, and not doing anything about it. Overall, our country still needs work on being less racist to other races that we think we’re superior to.

Racism is the mistreatment and prejudice against others merely for the color of their skin and their ethnic background. In my experience being an Asian American in a town with very little diversity, I’ve never had anyone especially mistreat me because of the color of my skin, but there have been many times where my complexion and race have made me feel uncomfortable and out of place. I haven’t had much experience with different cultures inside of Allendale, but when I travel, I’ve met people from all over the world. Sweden, France, Jamaica, Haiti, etc. It’s always very interesting to hear what things are like outside of America. While things are better than they were a hundred years ago, America is still very much so dealing with racism. We have a long way to go before we completely eradicate the problem.

Well racism is still going on. Racism been going on for like a while. I think racism is not okay because people feel uncomfortable in the usa. And i define racism a negative thing because black people couldn't really do anything without being judged or arrested or even killed. I hope racism stopped as soon as possible.

I believe that racism is the unfair treatment or judgement of someone solely based on their ethnic background, culture, or skin color. Through my experiences I know it doesn’t matter who you are, what your background is, or what your culture is, we are all people. When you look at someone the first thing you should see is their personality, not their skin color. I also know that the only way to get true experiences with other cultures is to go out and meet new people. Simply said, America has come a long way. Slavery no longer exists in this country, everyone is guaranteed rights, and everyone is protected by the Constitution. I do think that people are still concerned with racism and it can definitely be found in America today. Some examples of racism would be the issues with police officers shooting people with darker skin colors. Overall I think that racism is not as huge as it was in the past, but it can be found in our society today.

Racism is people being prejudice against another culture or different looking person. I define racism as discriminating against other people of culture trying to prove who has more power. The experiences i have are when i'm with my family just because i've got black family.you can ask people of other cultures or you could use google. Yes i do. No not from what i choose to see or hear.more cultures are mixing together and making my community have more culture. Calling rasial names and making so blacks are still treated equally.

Racism is when someone looks different than another person and get judged on it. People of different races can't help what color there skin is. Racism has always been a problem in the United States, and all over the world. Many people have tried to stop racism, but nobody has found a solution yet. Many people don't think racism is a problem in there community. There are different ethnicity's in every community. This problem has not stopped.

Racism is as been a problem in the world for a long time. I think racism is when people discriminate against other people who are a different religion or race. I have experienced different ethnicities around me because of my friends. I learn about different cultures and ethnicities when I go to church. I think that racism is still a problem in the United States because you still hear about it on the news I think that there is racism in my own community but if there is I dont think that there is very much.

Racism is the unfair treatment of someone based on their ethnicity. The world is comprised of all different races and groups that you'll most likely encounter. I think that learning about different cultures and ways of life in different places is important, so we can learn and accept that not everyone's the same, and people just need to understand that there is nothing wrong with being different. Yes I do definitely think we have racism still that we need to deal with.. Most people are racist to other people. In our country we are also dealing with immigrants and the controversy of that.

racism is discrimination or prejudice against someone or people that are a different race because of their beliefs. I personally had no experiences with racism, but i know its happening every where is the world. We learn about others peoples religion by books or maybe how they celebrate different holidays. America is still definitely dealing with racism, but it has gotten better in the past 50 years. I think there is still racism in our community because we might think of someone differently because of their beliefs.

The definition of racism is “prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of different race based on the belief that one’s race is superior.” I personally haven’t had any encounters with racism with me or my family. Racism is definitely going on in the world people see it a lot on the news. It is all around the world today and it probably will never go away.

Racism is where someone thinks they are better than someone else because of skin color. My experience with differences ethnicity are good and were a learning experience. People from different culture can teach you many things you don't know. They have different interest and different norms than me. Yes I think that America is still dealing with racism.

I think that racism is something where one race thinks they're better than another one. When white people shun black people or Mexican's or literally any other race. It's something that would need to stop soon. When Abraham Lincoln said "All men are created equally" I think he meant EVERYBODY!!!. Not just white people.

What’s the role of an individual in a pluralistic society? That is going to be the question this paper will tackle.

The American dream is possible for anybody, because it comes down to how hard you push yourself and how hard you work to become what you want to be. Although this is true, it does not mean that everybody can actually achieve the Amercian dream. If everyone wants to go for high paying jobs then there would be no one to do the very hard working, and low paying jobs. It can be harder for some people of different nationalities, and sexies. It is awful that this is happening in America, but white privilege is a thing, and it's very complex to stop this from continuing. Since the start of civilization, white men have always been given more rights and opportunities than women and people of color, and it hasn’t even been changed from that for more than 200 years, so it is kinda hard for these people to have the exact same opportunities. Some people do have it harder than others, but with self perseverance, and hard work you can help you achieve the American dream you want.
