Our school contains most ethnic groups in our country, but is mostly a white majority. People of Asian and African decent feel underrepresented in the school district because there is less of their racial group in our school. People of the Hispanic racial group are fairly represented in the high school and make up a good portion of the school population, but they are still overshadowed by the majority of the white population.

Integration is defined by putting different elements together and making them as one. It is expected that classes should have a mix of different races and ethnicity, to further allow an understanding of other races and cultures. In our school all other races are thoroughly outnumbered by those of the white race. In our article it says that in a typical classroom 75 percent of the people are white, while the remaining percentage is of different race. While in our current classroom we see that not even 5 percent of the people in a classroom are of a different ethnicity our background. Students could thoroughly benefit from having more racial integration, it opens up the mind to new possibilities and allows others to have a better understanding of other backgrounds and ethnicity. After a group reflection we all have agreed that our school is not as integrated as it should be or how we would want it to be. While we do have some integration we do not have nearly enough.

With having diversity, you can learn different things from your classmates like learning their beliefs and cultural, religions or family traditions. Examples of these could be different holidays that are observed by different cultures. Another example of this could be the different clothing worn or languages spoken.

Yes, different races at Allendale socialize within the school. We are together throughout sports, clubs and classes. Not only are our lunchrooms integrated, so are our friend groups. For example, within our group Rosie is from Haiti, Jessica and Emilio’s roots are from Mexico. Also in our group, we have Shea who has a black father and white, she is mixed.

We feel that our school is fairly integrated. For the majority, our school is mostly white, however we have many Hispanics and foreign exchange students. Our community is also somewhat segregated by areas. There are some Hispanic neighborhoods and others are mostly white. People range from higher wealth to lower wealth but we feel that our community is very accepting of diversity. A phrase that can also describe our school and community is, " Even as communities around the country have been debating how to address school segregation, with some proposals for integration meeting fierce opposition, a new report from the Century Foundation, a left-leaning think tank, calls Morris a model of “diversity and togetherness.”

We the people of Group 4 in Mr. Sispera's 5th hour English A class, asked ourselves the question of, do students with different racial or ethnic backgrounds socialize together in Allendale High School? Our group said that though our student body may sit in different groups at events or lunch, we do not look at each other in a different way. We are all students of Allendale High School. We have different social groups, but we don't discriminate others.

In our school it mostly has diverse groups. It is mostly a white community.Other ethnic groups don’t feel as representative and they feel like out of place. People of the Spanish racial group are liked in the high school. They make up a good portion of the school population, but they still fell out off place and want to be more represented.

What is the benefit of diversity in a classroom? In our humble opinion some of the benefits to diversity within a learning environment include, different perspectives on problems and ideas. Being around people of different backgrounds helps us understand how their culture affects their thinking and their way of learning. "The district’s [Morristown school district] Hispanic population has jumped by nearly 87 percent, to 1,698 in 2015-16 from 909 in 2001." In our school we have some people of Hispanic descent who are taking Spanish. This gives us and our Spanish teacher a different perspective on Spanish as a language because of it's different variations. Johnny Ramirez and Darline Aguilar speak central American Spanish, apposed to what we learn in our Spanish class, Spain-Spanish, which is considered more traditional. This gives us different perspectives on Spanish language as a whole and enhances our learning and understanding.

One of the main issues with segregation in America is that transportation is not an option for those who want to move into a more diversified and better school option. One of the reasons why transportation is such a big deal for diversifying schools is that the funding for transportation is no where near the amount needed to fund all of the students wanting to move to a more ideal school. Some schools avoid the idea of diversifying schools even though black people and Hispanic people may not be as oppressed as they were years ago, but it's also hard for them to find good jobs in modern times. The sentence stating that "The 5,226-student district is one of the few in the country created through such a merger" is proof of this.

My book is the chocolate war im only 11 pages in but it is about a kid named Jerry Renault that wants to play for the football team. He wants to be the quarterback for the team but he ends up trying out for the end position but he it’s fine as long as I get a spot on the football team. But the reason the coach didn't want him at quarterback is because he was getting hit too much and then after practice he has to go too his job but I think his brother isn't driving him. And that is where I am at.
